Web Design and Web Hosting

[Web Design] [Process] [Budget] [Philosophy]

Good design comes from (among other things) good process.
You know: A set of procedures. A sequence of events. Steps along a path.

The process of web design includes two distinct areas:

  • Content Development
Good content is “good” independent of the interface.
  • User Interface Design
A well designed interface must derive from the content.

Clients often rely on the designer to identify and follow a process. For good collaboration, the process needs to be based on stated purposes and objectives.

One of the early steps of content development is to produce a content outline. A thoughtfully executed content outline allows the interface designer to understand what kind of stuff the target user will navigate through. It is after this step that initial interface design can begin.

Designers talk about the “design process.” Current design theory discussion often alludes to two contrasting schools of thought about “how good design happens,” known as the Rational Model and the Action-Centric Model.

Some clients care about the process, others don’t. The processes I use have developed for a long time and I enjoy making them work.

Calling a design “good” means assigning value. The process of design often includes an important constraint called  budget.
