Web Design and Web Hosting

[Web Design] [Process] [Budget] [Philosophy]

Web design projects vary widely from a process and cost perspective. I expect prospective clients to ask me:

  • How much will it cost?
  • How long will it take?
  • What will I get?
  • What do I have to do?

Initial discussions are intended to answer these questions. I like to talk about purposes and objectives, then identify the obvious requirements and constraints. With this information, I can start suggesting realistic budget expectations.

Web design project budgets often break down into:

  • Content Development
  • Interface Design
  • Coding and Systems Design
  • SEO (search engine optimization)
  • Client Training
  • License and Software

Ongoing expenses usually include:

  • Domain Name Registration
  • Hosting Services
  • Content Requirements

Apples & Oranges

Comparing design and development providers can be tricky. Make sure you have a comfortable understanding of cost in dollars, time, results, and effort. Bells, whistles, smoke and mirrors are way too common in this industry.

Quoting a web design/build project is not unlike quoting a new house. The builder needs preliminary plans to estimate time and cost. For a firm quote, a full set of specifications is required.

Fine But What Does it Cost?
I have worked directly with clients to plan, design and build web sites for over a decade. Many sites have a budget range of $2,000 to $5,000. I have had projects that were less and others that were more. It is important that clients are never surprised and always satisfied.

You have options for domain name and hosting. The service I provide is $260 per year and includes both.
